DJ Muggs is a Los Angeles producer who has worked with Ice Cube to Dr. Dre to RZA to GZA to Tricky. Recently, Muggs announced that he is collaborating with Daniel Dumile aka MF Doom for a unique 2-song project. The new collaborative project is set to arrive everywhere next Friday, June 29th is part of a new concept album titled Assassination Day. The release of the album is set to release on August 3rd via Soul Assassins Records. According to the press release, “Assassination Day is a thematic album with a vigilante concept where hip-hop takes corruption head-on, figuratively killing off powerful evildoers in positions of power as the story unfolds.”
The record, Assassination Day, is going to be released as individual chapters with various emcees. The first chapter is with the New York hip-hop star Doom who enlisted rap heavyweights Freddie Gibbs and Kool G Rap. Today, Muggs released the first single off the new LP entitled “Deathwish” featuring MF Doom and Freddie Gibbs (who also dropped his mixtape today entitled Freddie.)

Soul Assassins Records is also planning to release a limited vinyl run of 1000 vinyl pressings of the first project with Doom, teaming up with LA artist and producer Madlib and his Rappcats site, they will premiere the song “Deathwish” digitally. Immediately afterward, Rappcats will release a limited run of 300 handmade vinyl copies packaged in 5 unique jackets screen printed by Hit & Run. The limited 12″ will include a B-Side track “Assassination Day” featuring Kool G Rapp. They are available here.
Fans who live in Los Angeles should mark their calendars. Muggs will host a pop-up event at the Rappcats storefront in Los Angeles at the end of the month on June 30th. At the event, Muggs along with Hit and Run, will have screen printing of the last 100 records and also unique merchandise created for the event to be sold to fans in attendance.
