Mereki is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles but hailing from Australia by way of Sweden, London and New York. Today we are excited to premiere her new video for “Got It All,” a tight piece of electronic pop perfection, replete with an anthemic chorus and bubbling synth verses.
The song, “Got It All” reflects Mereki’s spiritual nature, as it was written during a time of self-reflection. The visuals are a great match for the upbeat pop track, featuring purple hues and Mereki dancing to the electronic groove of the song. The video was directed by filmmaker Dakota Light-Smith.
“I became obsessed with the color Lilac & asked Dakota Light-Smith (Artist/Design/Filmmaker/Genius) if she could build me a lilac room to dance around in,” said Mereki. “She did, as in, properly built it with her bare hands, painted it lilac and then covered the floor with water for me to play in. She then made an entire room full of lilac confetti & a mirror room for me to dance around in too. We buried me in the confetti at one point and I had just gotten back from Antarctica the day before and I remember thinking ‘Yup, Got It All’. This song is about feeling shitty and reminding yourself, by finding deep gratitude for everything that you HAVE instead of focusing on what you don’t, that you really do have it all. Hope you like it as much as I do”
“Got It All” is pulled from Mereki’s new EP titled Beach. In addition to her solo career, Mereki spent some time as the touring frontwomen for Goldroom, an electronic act that specializes in very Southern California-sounding music. Additionally, she has written songs for Kylie Minogue, Atrak, mxdwn favorites Kitten, Phantogram and Suki Waterhouse. She has appeared on songs from Dhani Harrison as well as Goldroom, Basenji, HOLYCHILD and others. She was first discovered by Ariel Rechtshaid (HAIM, Vampire Weekend), who asked her if Kylie Minogue could release one of her songs. The rest they say, is history.
