Dr. Frankenstein would be proud of Bill McClintock’s postmodern juxtaposition of Wham’s “Careless Whisper” and Slayer’s “Seasons in The Abyss” morphed into the aptly titled new track, “Careless Whisper in the Abyss.”

“Careless Whisper” was released in July of 1984 by pop ballad icon George Michael and Wham! partner Andrew Ridgeley while Slayer’s Season’s in the Abyss” dropped in October 1990. PRP reports the mashup features the instrumentals of “Careless Whisper” paired with Slayer frontman Tom Araya’s vocals. The surprisingly balanced production is then interspersed with George Michael’s honeyed voice.

Michael spoke about writing the classic hit, saying, “I was on my way to DJ at the Bel Air when I wrote ‘Careless Whisper.’ I have always written on buses, trains and in cars. It always happens on journeys. With ‘Careless Whisper’ I remember EXACTLY where it first came to me, where I came up with the sax line. I can remember very vaguely where I was when I wrote things after Wham! got off the ground–but with ‘Careless Whisper’ I remember exactly the time and place. I know it sounds really weird and a kind of romantic thing to say–but I remember exactly where it happened, where I was sitting on the bus, how I continued and everything.”

Metal Insider reports mashup artist Bill McClintock, an elementary and middle school music teacher who has a music theory background, spoke about his ability to creatively combine songs. “Once I have an idea, mixing the audio probably takes on average about five to ten hours. The video part takes about two or three hours. The most time-consuming part is coming up with a really good match. That can take days, if not weeks.”
