As you may have already known, Devildriver has been slowly unveiling their cover album Outlaws ‘Til the End Vol. 1. Through a recent press release, the epic and heavy metal band Devildriver have shared a new cover of theirs; “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” which features John Carter Cash, Ana Cristina Cash, and Randy Blythe from metal shredders Lamb of God.
The new release was also accompanied by an epic video that you can check out below.
The video opens and a large, fiery explosion shocks the senses before a silky guitar line and thumping drum kick drop in. As the music rolls on, the video takes the audience on a tour of the studio as well as a peak into the recording process they endured for this piece. One by one each musician in the song pops into the screen as they play their parts that make the song a whole. A country and cowboy-esque guitar lick shine through the song break before the song returns to its original state. This new music video not only features an incredible take on a brilliant song, but also gives a cool sneak peak into the world that Devildriver created for this album. And it is a unique world at that.
When talking about the recording process with Billboard Magazine, Dez Fafara of Devildrivers said that “Lyrically I knew the approach was gonna be heavy; This wasn’t going to be an Active Rock-leaning kind of track. It wasn’t me laying down my tracks and then everyone else laying down their tracks. I did the opposite; I told everybody, ‘You lay the whole song and then I’ll decide where everything goes.’ So on ‘Ghost Riders’ we had John Carter Cash laying the whole thing, Randy laying the whole thing, myself laying the whole thing and then we put it all together. It’s a very non-traditional way to do it, but it got the best results, I think.”
