Independent record label, Anticon, has announced they will honor founding member Alias, who passed away following a heart attack on March 30, 2018, with a benefit show. The event, which also celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Anticon, will take place in Los Angeles at the Teragram Ballroom on Monday, June 25, and will feature resident label artists including Baths, Yoni Wolf, Doseone, Fog, Aceyalone, Dntel, Sodapop and more.

In March, 2018, mxdwn reported Brendan Whitney, known as Alias, passed away leaving a wife, Jenn, and two daughters, Aiko and Inara. Whitney, who formed Anticon with rapper Sole in 1998, released nine solo albums including his most recent critically acclaimed Pitch Black Prism in 2014.

Over the course of his career, Whitney shifted his focus to production, collaborating with artists including Sole, Sage Francis, B. Dolan and Pedestrian.

Following Whitney’s death, there was an outpouring of grief with Sage Francis tweeting:

All proceeds from ticket sales for the upcoming show will go to Whitney’s wife and children living in Portland, Maine. In a press release, the label says to “expect a constant stream of performances from beginning to end with special DJs binding the night together.”
