Legendary alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins have announced a national sweepstakes for a “1979” House Party. The party is inspired by the video for their classic song “1979” and the band will perform an intimate show at a secret residential location in Los Angeles on June 28. The house-party show will serve as a pre-party to help kick off their Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour that kicks off July 12.
The sweepstakes winner will receive V.I.P access to the house party, a Yamaha guitar, round-trip flights to Los Angeles, a two night Hilton stay, and a cash card for ground transportation. The rules and entry form can be found here.
The tour will coincide with the bands 30th anniversary and will feature three fourths of the bands original lineup; Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlain. Longtime Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder will also take part, as the band moves to a three guitar lineup to further capitalize on their already universally signature and powerful alternative sound.
They will be supported by the band Metric and will hit other cities along the way such as Austin, Nashville, Miami, Detroit and Toronto among many more. The tour will feature material from classic albums such as their debut Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Adore and Machina. The band has released nine albums, sold over 30 million albums worldwide and remains one of the most influential bands in alternative rock today.
