Fans of a diverse music festival lineup can now rejoice as Muddy Roots Festival is back for 2018 at the June Bug Boogie Ranch in Cookeville, Tennessee. The festival will go from August 30 to September 2 and will feature a can’t-miss lineup that is bound to have a little something for everyone.
The festival has gained notoriety since its inception in 2010 by including artists ranging from punk, hardcore, classic country, metal, singer songwriters and rockabilly. Previous artists to play the festival include Black Flag, Joe Buck, Rachel Brooke, The Melvins, The Del McCoury Band and Legendary Shack Shakers.
This year’s lineup may be the best yet as it will feature legends such as Sleep and High on Fire, along with X, Neurosis, Meat Puppets, TSOL, Oxbow, Mondo Generator, Wovenhand, and Fu Manchu among many others. Fans can enjoy these bands in one of the most intimate backyard block party type atmospheres beyond what most festivals can offer.
Sleep recently released their first stoner metal offering since 2003 called The Sciences. The album was a surprise drop conveniently released on 4/20 after fifteen years of waiting by many yearning fans. The band’s guitarist Matt Pike will also be pulling double duty as vocalist for the widely respected metal band High on Fire who is set to release an album later this year, their first since 2015.
Neurosis will be hitting the road prior to Muddy Roots with Converge and is touring on their eleventh studio release from 2016 Fires Within Fires. Psychedelic hard rock icons Fu Manchu recently released their 12th studio album called Clone of the Universe and are currently on tour in the states.
Fuzzy and distorted experimental band Oxbow will bring their noise rock stylings like on their 2017 album Thin Black Duke to the people of Tennessee and Mondo Generator will provide festival attendees more stoner rock like on their acclaimed song “The Last Train.”
