For those unfamiliar with the group The Internet here is a little history lesson. In 2011 Syd and Matt Martians of Odd Future decided to form a music group with touring members Patrick Paige Christopher Smith and Tay walker. On December 20th of 2011 they released their debut album Purple Naked Ladies through Odd Future Records. In September of 2013 The Internet released their second album Feel Good which brought them on a worldwide tour, backing for Mac Miller. Lastly, they released their third and most critically acclaimed album Ego Death in 2015, which earned them a Grammy nomination. Since then, though, The Internet has not released new music as a group. That is about to change.
Through a recent press release, the group has announced that they have released a new song titled “Roll (Burbank Funk).” The song features incredible use of funk music that also expertly showcases each members signature sound. Truly an excellent way to return to the music world. Not only did they release a new song, but also a music video alongside it. The video opens with “The Internet” pasted in bright white letters. Soon, a scene emerges and the audience is brought to what appears to be a recording studio. In one shot the camera travels from the studio to a lone sampler spotlit in the dark. The drumbeat propels the video and song, ever moving and dancing alongside the members.
The video is pure joy and The Internet really utilizes it well in that they each take off a face cover as if they are returning from the dark. The video was directed by Joe Weil of Kendrick Lamar, YG, and Schoolboy Q. Check out the whole video below.
The Internet will also go on a small tour around the world visiting various cities and music festivals. Check out below to see if they will be visiting you!
