A Rollercoaster of Sounds
After being a band for seven years and going through a band name change, American Pleasure Club is releasing a compilation of all of the songs needed for an evening full of vibes.
A Whole Fucking Lifetime Of This starts off on a mellow note with soft guitar and distant vocals, which isn’t necessarily what is heard throughout the rest of the album; however, it makes for a nice start, like dipping your toes in the water.
“this is heaven & id die for it” takes the album in a completely different direction with its sound. The guitars are a lot more charged and chaotic, but it pairs nicely with the vocals and lyrics on the track. The drastic change in sounds from track to track make for an album that is entertaining to listen to, and makes it easier to put it on repeat because it is always slightly different each time.
A slightly different dynamic is brought to the album with the track “sycamore.” While the track is still fairly indie in its overall sound, it also possesses a different type of beat when compared to the other tracks on the album. The instrumentals on the track are somewhat jazzy in nature, but also offer a beat that is easy to move to. By this point in the album it stands out as a track that doesn’t quite fit in with the rest, but in the best way possible.
The album takes another dramatic turn with the track “new years eve.” It brings the album closer to the same vibe that “this is heaven & id die for it” had. Although this time the guitar and drum work are a strong focus of the track because it is used as a song to showcase the talent behind it. This is one of the many tracks on the album that has multiple little quirks to it that can be picked up with each listen to the album as a whole.
“eating cherries” brings about an almost eerie vibe to the album, but it ends up being a fairly beautiful song at the same time. There is some really mellow piano on the later half of the track that is easy to get lost in when listening to it. The vocals on the track have somewhat of a haunting feel to them when paired with said piano, making for a solid track overall.
The album comes full circle with “the sun was in my eyes,” which is the final track that beckons back to the sounds and vibes of the opening track on the album. American Pleasure Club does a good job of taking the listener through multiple feelings and sounds with each and every track on A Whole Fucking Lifetime Of This, and it is sure to be an album that could be put on repeat without getting old over time.
