Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood has soundtracked the latest Paul Thomas Anderson film, Phantom Thread, marking his fourth score with Paul Thomas Anderson, and eighth soundtrack overall. Greenwood previously worked on films such as There Will Be Blood, Inherent Vice, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and The Master. His new score for Phantom Thread has also been nominated for Best Score at the 23rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globes.
According to the film’s website, Phantom Thread is “set in the glamour of 1950’s post-war London,” where “renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion… with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover.”
A preview of Greenwood’s score has been released with the track “House of Woodcock,” a floating piano ballad, which can be heard below. According to Pitchfork, the score will become available digitally on January 12th via Nonesuch. Phantom Thread is currently playing in theaters.
