Michael Gira, frontman of the experimental rock band The Swans, has just posted dates for the band’s European tour. In February of 2018, the band will set out across Europe to plays several shows. In the Facebook post, Gira also announced that he would play some new material on the tour.
Gira must be working on this new material with new collaborators since the old lineup, consisting of Norman Westberg (guitar), Kristof Hahn (guitar), Phil Puelo (drums), Christopher Pravdica (bass) and Thor Harris (drums), dissolved officially in November. Back in May, the band announced that they planned to split amicably, while Gira would continue on with new members. Gira originally founded the band in 1982 and has worked with a wide array of supporting musicians throughout the band’s thirty-five year reign. He has been the only consistent member of the group, contributing vocals, songwriting and guitar credentials throughout the band’s history.
In another Facebook post, Gira shared that he wasn’t sure where exactly the new music was headed, but it would most likely be more stripped down: “Sitting there alone on stage with a dead piece of wood and some wires and just my voice is a challenge I set for myself a number of years ago.” Fans will have to check out his tour to find out what exactly Gira plans to do next!
