Australian rocker and Models frontman James Freud was found dead Nov. 5 in his Melbourne area home after an apparent suicide. Freud was 51 years old. Best known in the U.S. for 1986 Geffen-issued singles “Out of Mind, Out of Sight” and “Cold Fever,” Freud endured a long-running and well-chronicled battle with alcoholism before finally succumbing to the disease.
In recent years Freud seemed to be winning his fight with alcoholism, embarking on a successful career as a self-help author. Unfortunately, however, Freud began drinking again, and even missed the Models’ induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame just last week.
Freud is survived by his wife Sally and sons Harrison and Jackson.
