This year at Marfa Myths Festival, Bradford Cox and Cate Le Bon will stay as “artists in residence.” According to Pitchfork, the two will reside, write and record at the upcoming festival, which is hosted in Marfa, Texas from April 12th to the 15th. The music the two artists record, will eventually be released as an EP. Since the multidisciplinary festival’s inauguration in 2014, many artists have been participating in the residency program including: Gustav Ejstes and Reine Fiske from Dungen with Jeremy Earl and Jarvis Taveniere of Woods; Connan Mockasin with Devonté Hynes; and Ariel Pink with Weyes Blood.

Cox is known for his work in the band Deerhunter along with his solo project Atlas Sound. Cox serves as the one-of-a-kind, oddball vocalist and frontman for the experimental band. He combines Yoko Ono’s fearless fearless experiments with the late David Bowie’s fair for eccentric personas and costumes. Since their start in 2001, the Atlanta band uses aggressive guitar riffs with synthesized dance melodies to create a singular style and sound that is a rare mix of indie-rock and punk-pop. Along with Cox vocals, guitar, keyboards) the band is comprised of cofounded Moses Archueta (drums, electronics), Lockett Pundt (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Josh McKay (bass), Javier Morales (keyboards, synthesizers, alto saxophone) and Rhasaan Manning (percussion, electronics).

Cate Le Bon has had quite a different musical upbringing. Le Bon hails from Wales, and uses a darker and sparser sound in her music. Yet her songs still manage to be melodic and sweet; even if they are a bit downbeat at times. She sounds like the nonchalant cousin of the much more upbeat Regina Spektor and Zooey Deschanel (She & Him).

The two are sure to create something incredible during their residency.
