Former Dry Cell vocalist Jeff Gutt, who perhaps experienced his greatest notoriety for appearing on X-Factor, has been announced as the new lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, Revolver reports. Gutt was announced by the band during a show on Sirius/XM radio Volume 106 with Eddie Trunk today. Tonight, he will perform his first-ever live show tonight with the band at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA at a special invite-only event.

Gutt follows in the footsteps of original vocalist Scott Weiland, who left the band in 2013 and died in 2015. After Weiland’s departure, he was replaced by Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington, who recorded on EP with the band (titled High Rise) and moved on after just two years to resume focus on his main gig. Bennington took his own life earlier this year, leaving the band without an option for lead vocalist.

The band received 15,000 auditions – including Life of Agony vocalist Mina Caputo – before arriving on the decision to make Gutt the new singer. Stone Temple Pilots also have been teasing something on their Facebook page, which turned out to be some sort of record cover. Whether it’s a single or a full album remains to be seen.
