Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park announced their 2018 lineup featuring a cast worthy of the audience they will inevitably receive. The twin German festivals will feature Foo Fighters, Thirty Seconds To Mars and Gorillaz. The festivals names’ translate to ‘Rock at the Ring’ and ‘Rock in the Park.’ They’re always held together annually; Rock am Ring takes place at the Nürburgring race track, Rock im Park takes place at the Zeppelinfeld in Nuremberg. The lineups for each festival are identical, leaving fans free to attend either without making a sacrifice. The two festivals combined are the largest in Germany and compete internationally in size. There were 150,000 recorded attendees in 2007.
As with many of the largest festivals around the world today, these began as a one-time operation. However, due to the overwhelming commercial success of its debut in 1985—75,000 audience members—the festival continued. Three years later the organizers had a contrasting experience when attendance dipped dramatically. After a two year break, the concert came back in 1991. Promoters organized the lineups to feature lesser-known or up and coming artists as well as the big acts to create a wider draw as well as opportunities for artists.
Scientists used the 2007 festival to conduct an experiment. Theoretically, they thought, one could model the impact of an entire Chinese population simultaneously jumping in the air by doing it on a smaller scale. Of course, that smaller scale is huge and most often occurs at events like music festivals. The results were ultimately inconclusive.
Joining the headliners will be Good Charlotte, Jimmy Eat World, Rise Against and Nothing But Thieves. Avenged Sevenfold, Enter Shikari, Bury Tomorrow, Parkway Drive, Stone Sour and many more will make appearances. Tickets can be purchased on the website.
