Earlier this afternoon, Philadelphia based indie-rockers The War On Drugs performed an in-studio session at the radio station 89.7 WTMD in Baltimore, MD. During the session, the band played a never-bef0re-heard track from their upcoming album , titled “Pain.” The new album, the band’s fourth LP, is titled A Deeper Understanding and will be released on August 25, 2017.
Head to 13:00 to hear the band introduce the track and talk with the DJ before performing “Pain.”
The song is not a drastic departure from any of the material fans of The War On Drugs have grown to love. Lead singer Adam Granduciel’s hazy vocal delivery is well-complemented by rich instrumentals that are guided by a beautiful piano riff. Unlike some of the band’s other songs though, this one does not stretch on for that long. At just over four minutes, it’s not a short song but much more brief than the nearly six-minute “Holding On” or “Strangest Thing,” which approaches the seven minute mark.
The band is also headed out on tour beginning in September, with dates in the United States, Canada, European Union and United Kingdom. Check the full list of dates below:
