After playing Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise live earlier this year, Mogwai has released a new song called “Party In The Dark”, which will be a part of the group’s upcoming album Every Country’s Sun releasing in September, along with preparing for a winter tour starting in September. This track shows a rare side of Mogwai due to the song having vocals when the group is known to be an all-instrumental band.
The group collaborated with Dave Fridmann, well known for his work in Flaming Lips and Tame Impala. The song has contrasting features to the band’s usual style, with having a elegant and a type of euphoric type of tune. The song can be listened to below.
According to the press release, the song combines a post-punk blueprint with expansive space-rock and has described as “a New Order-nodding melodic joy”, by Dazed. It was also described as “perhaps the most fully realized art-pop sing-along in the band’s discography.”
