Oneohtrix Point Never, American electronic producer by the name of Daniel Lopatin, recently scored the film Good Time, the hypnotic crime thriller that performed well at the Cannes film festival and earned the award for Best Soundtrack. Now, the producer returns with his new album Good Time Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
As a sneak peak, the producer let loose one of the new songs “The Pure and the Damned,” with none other than Iggy Pop himself, who offers a dynamic vocal performance on the simple piano ballad. The track opens with an Iggy-driven tender melody, until the production builds into an explosion of synth, where Pop gives a rather blunt statement that is full of wisdom. “The pure always act from love..The damned always at from love/That’s love.”
When working on the film soundtrack, Lopatin said it was a natural fit when working with the film creators, which made the creative process that much easier. “I had a good feeling when I walked into their midtown office, which was more like a shrine to everything they loved…we share an affection and reverence for bruised and battered stuff, and I think we both feel this urge to enshrine the history as it is now, not as it was then. On our own terms.”
Good Time Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is due out August 11 through Warp Records. Check out the tracklist and new song below, and watch the trailer for the film here. The new track is also available for preorder here. Oneohtrix Point Never also worked on the recent Anohni EP.
