Who says your grandpa can’t rock out?
Foo Fighters might be rock’s last great act in terms of its place within mainstream culture (fight me). While rap has taken old of the music of the youth, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters continue to put out music that resonates with the culture.
Besides touring with nearly every top act in the world and a loosie back in May, the band has been largely radio silent. Now, however, the band appears out of the woodwork, and it appears that all the touring and recording has taken its toll because well…they’ve aged a bit. The band returns with a new video and single entitled “Run,” making it their first official release since the Saint Cecilia EP back in 2015.
The track itself is an absolute banger. Smashing guitars and splashy drums ricochet off each other to make anyone want to flip their desk over, while the band teeters back and forth between all out raging and melodic rock grooves. It’s all the components that have kept Foo Fighters (and by extension rock) in the mainstream’s ear over the past decade or so.
The video is set in a nursing home, with the typical feeling of gloom one gets when they go to visit their grandma in one of those places. However, things quickly turn when Grohl and company turn the place into an all-out moshpit. Old men are fighting nurses, people are busting furniture, old woman-breasts even start flying out at one point. It definitely beats your high school’s 60th reunion.
While it’s unclear if this is buildup to an album release, the new song and video are up on all your favorite streaming services for stream or purchase.
