“Love Drug” is eclectic and sporadic, just like Die Antwoord, who just released a new song, “Love Drug,” and can put those at ease that still might have thought the South African rap group was going to split.
In September of last year, the Exclaim wrote an article about an interview with Die Antwoord’s Ninja, where he insinuated with a quote that the group may be headed to a break-up in September of 2017.
However, this ended up not to be true and Yolandi Visser posted via Instagram an explanation to fans of the situation, clearly stating the comment was taken out of context and the group wasn’t done yet. However, they did state that they would be working on their last album that will drop in September in 2017, but would continue to stick together while they work on a Die Antwoord feature film.
Following that hiccup, Die Antwoord released their fourth album, Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid, September 16, 2016 and we since haven’t heard much from the group.
Last Friday, Die Antwoord dropped their most recent single, “Love Drug,” eluding to the album we thought might have never been created, The Book of Zef.
“Love Drug” has a light-childlike low-point with soft percussions and sweet song notes from Visser, but spatcially switches to aggressive drumming and heavy base with verses like, “You drive me fucking crazy, I want to fuck your brains out, I got you under my skin baby.”
