Rap artist Princess Nokia – born Destiny Frasqueri – prides herself on being an individual and celebrates that through her music. She will be at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge July 14th.
The independent artist started making and releasing music on SoundCloud and YouTube in 2012 where she demonstrated her ability to both rap and sing. She has also performed under the stage names “Wavy Spice and “Destiny. She currently performs under the name Princess Nokia; her alter-ego of which she says “Labels no longer matter. My new music is cosmic and three-dimensional, and it will really speak of who Princess Nokia is. Princess Nokia is sound. It is progression. It is all that I am.”
The Afro-Nuyorican musical style blends an eclectic mix of tribal beats, R&B and hip hop.
She has released two self-released mixtapes as well as an EP titled 1992. The album received critical acclaim by several publications including Rolling Stone which listed it as one of its 15 Greatest Albums You Didn’t Hear in 2016.
