Fleet Foxes is an indie folk band from Seattle, Washington. The band was formed in 2006 by two high school buds, Robin Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset. In 2005, before Fleet Foxes was created, Pecknold had went on tour playing bass for Seattle’s indie-pop band, Dolour. “The Pineapples” was the original name of the band. After realizing there was another Seattle band with the same name, they changed it to “Fleet Foxes.”
Starting out as a two-piece, the band had filled in three more members to fill the spots of keyboard, bass, upright bass and a few other instruments. Fleet Foxes began to get more attention after sharing their music on their myspace page. Not only were they popular in the US, they had gained a lot of attention in Europe as well. Up until 2013, they released two albums and a few Eps and singles.
Pecknold announced in 2013, they he was going back to school for an undergraduate degree at Columbia University in New York City. After a brief breakup, the band announced they were working on new music in 2016. The band announced this March that their upcoming album, Crack-Up, is set to be released on June 16, 2017. You can check out their first single from the upcoming album, “Third of May / Ōdaigahara,” on their Spotify.
