Fans have always hoped for the return of the Gorillaz after not hearing from the eccentric supergroup since 2010. Now out of the woodworks when the world seemingly needed their shadowy and cryptic tunes the most, the Gorillaz are back to deliver. Damon Albarn dropped several bombs on the music industry when he revealed a new Gorillaz television show in the making along with their next album entitled Humanz. While there hasn’t been an official date released, it’s exciting to know our favorite animated rockers are coming to the small screen. Unfortunately, we won’t be catching them at the movies anytime soon after Dreamworks cut their film because “it was too dark to spend a couple of hundred million dollars on.”
He also said Sade, Dionne Warwick, and Morrissey were offered feature spots on the upcoming LP Humanz but each either didn’t respond, or declined. In Warwick’s case, she said no because the lyrics went against her religious beliefs. Albarn claimed the upcoming album is about the aftermath of the presidential election, and said “I told everyone to imagine you’re in America after the inauguration. And it’s the worst-case scenario: how would you feel that night? Let’s make a party record about the world going fucking nuts.”
Gorillaz recently released a track from Humanz with Pusha T and Marvin Staples called “Let Me Out” that you can listen to here. Catch the group on the festival scene, where they’re featured on Outside Lands and Fuji Rock Festival’s lineup.
