The Portland based indie synth-pop trio, STRFKR, will be coming to town in July. The band originally started out as a solo project in 2007 by Joshua Hodges. Hodges released two albums under the name Sexton Blake. STRFKR incorporates snappy clicks along with funky synth beats that sound like a song from the 80s.
Originally, the band started off as a joke under the name Starfucker. Their success grew once Target sampled “Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second” in one of their campaigns. Shocked at how well they were doing, they changed their name to PYRAMID and Pyramiddd, then quickly changed it back to the original. They shortened their name to STRFKR in 2012 when one of their members left the band.
STRFKR has released 6 studio albums plus several singles. Songs like “Fortune’s Fool,” “Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second” and their cover of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” reveal the different styles throughout their music. Their latest album, Vault Vol. 1, was released this past February. Songs like “Boogie Woogie” and “Goofy Shit” on Vault Vol. 1 show just how groovy these dudes really are.
