Laetitia Sadier, the indie rock legend of Stereolab fame (currently on indefinite hiatus) is finally releasing a solo album of her own. Unlike her work with Monade, her side-project since the mid-90s, this album is the first to bear only her name. The Trip features a number of musicians and a band, some of whom have worked with Sadier in the past. Sadier describes album as a vehicle for much of her own ideas, both musical and lyrical, a luxury she felt was rarely afforded to her as one half of the songwriting team behind Stereolab (the other half being her former long-time partner, Tim Gane). One song in particular is an intensely personal account of her grief over her sister’s suicide and her attempt to understand the hardships of loss. The album is slated to be released on September 21.
