With the rapid advancement of technology it has become apparent that this is the generation thats realized in a battle against the internet, you will not win. Artists are constantly looking for new ways to bring in revenue for their talent and not every artists is able to access the same platforms and revenue streams. From endorsement to commercials these are just a few of the ways that artists and their management are trying to make up for lost revenue. By far the most popular for of music consumption, streaming giant like Spotify, Google Play, Apple Music, Soundcloud and many others have emerged as contenders for the top spot. But, not all artists have had the same reaction to streaming. Some of been resistant due to the lack of pay for their art. Most notably, Prince was known for not allowing his music to be available in the internet generation. It wasn’t until he passed away that it became available to stream.
The discography of a number of artists is currently not available to stream much to the frustration of their fans. In this case, Tool may become the next act to finally allow their music to be made available for streaming. Reported by LOUDWIRE via Bloomberg, Tool is in close to making their catalog available for fans. The reasoning for this could be that they started work on a new album recently and are looking for new ways to promote their music. Since the release of their 2006 album 10,000 Days technology has changed. At the time, Youtube had just begun to get off the ground so it is understandable why they are taking their time with the release of their discography and the release of their new music.
Earlier this year, Tool announced that they would be going on a Spring 2017 tour while also revealing that vocal work had already begun on their 2017 album.
