According to Brooklyn Vegan, due to the ever closer blizzard that was forecast for the tri-state area, which called for over a foot of snow, many flights out of that zone were forced to cancelled their plans. More than 4,000 flights around the North East have already been cancelled in anticipation, major airlines such as Southwest, American, and Jetblue have nixed flights departing on March 14th out of JFK, LGA, Newark, Boston, Baltimore, Washington DC and even Chicago O’hare International Airport. Halting hundreds of flights, including those heading for Austin and the South by Southwest Festival.
Thousands of attendees will sadly be unable to attend the legendary festival, or will have to find other means of transportation that will take them to their desired festivities.
Unfortunately, it’s not only guests that will have issues attending SXSW, plenty of artist that were scheduled to perform at the venues will be forced to cancel or find other ways to get on stage. the show must go on!
Indie rock group, Japanese Breakfast has been tweeting out their journey to their fans, letting people know that they will attempt to get to their slot time.
And in a twisted turn of events Julie Byrne and I will be driving 24 hours to Austin to make it to sxsw

Other Performers, such as LIZZO, were not so fortunate, tweeting out that several members will not be able to make it out because they are stuck on the East coast.
Half of my band got stuck in a snowstorm so we had to! But ALL the rest of my shows are ON AND POPPIN! #sxsw https://t.co/G2ffPaj8Jr

As more flight cancellations come in, it is most certain that more artists issues will arise. For now it seem the damage was at a minimum, SXSW has not reported anymore changes as of yet.
