Before Biggie Jay Z and Nas ruled New York, numerous emcees and groups were solidifying the foundation for the next big movement in music. In 1992 the producer/emcee team from Queens, NY, The Beatnuts, cracked their way into the the light of hip hop elites by DJ’ing parties and recording music.  Composed of Pyscho Les and JuJu, the Beatnuts were apart of the Native Tongues collective that included the likes of A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. 

In 1993 The Beatnuts released their first album “Intoxicated Demons: The EP.”  It was this album that led to their critical success due to its jazz-heavy samples that included snapping snares and hedonistic horns combined with party-driven lyrics and tough New York rhymes.  In short, they had transitioned from rocking live parties as DJs to recording and selling the same sound and energy in which they brought to their live events. 

Today The Beatnuts are alive and well, gracing party-goers and hip hop fans in the best way they know how, spinning records and live emceeing.  Their current tour with Little Brother emcee Rapper Big Pooh takes them all over the continental U.S. with a stop in LA on January 24th at the Regent Theatre.  Whether you enjoy classic sounding hip hop from the earlier era or are just in for a party scene spectacle, this is a show that will have you throwing your hands up in the air and dancing from your hips, shoulders, arms, legs and soul.
