Does history repeat itself? Back in 2012 Lupe Fiasco made a claim that he would stop making music, over Twitter might I add. Of course, this remained untrue when he later released more music. In 2015, he quit Twitter and later returned. Critically acclaimed artist Lupe Fiasco has had a history of being hot and cold with the public. He also notably has a past of having openly conflicting opinions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in which he disputes with fans over Twitter, on stage and in his musical lyrics.
This past week, Fiasco released a new track via Soundcloud titled “N.E.R.D.” The song incorporates instrumentals from J. Cole’s single “Everybody Dies”. However, Fiasco raps, “Artists getting’ robbed for their publishing by dirty Jewish execs who think that it’s alms from the covenant.” Then he proceeded to spend the night arguing with fans (once again) over Twitter. He claims that this was not an Anti-Semitic line from the song but fans believed other so.
The following morning he made an announcement. He said, “Yo Lupe fans it’s been fun and I hope you’ve had fun. I’m officially not releasing any more music. Albums canceled.” Then, made his Twitter account private.
Earlier this year however, Lupe Fiasco had made an announcement to the public that he planned on releasing three separate albums in the year 2016. But, due to “Clearances and Mixing issues”, he pushed back the released dates a few months back. Last but not least, he claimed that the song has been erased from the Soundcloud—check it out on Soundcloud below!
