After Half Japanese releasing the single “Attack of the Giant Leeches,” they are following up with a new record Hear the Lions Roar that comes out January 13th, 2017 via Fire Records. This comes as a great follow up after Perfect that came out earlier this year. Half Japanese for the past four decades have given us some of the weirdest, but greatest rock albums while staying true to their roots.
Half Japanese is comprised of Jad and David Fair that began back in 1975. The punk band has a great line up of features on their new album including John Sluggett, Gilles-Vincent Rieder, Jason Willett, Mick Hobbs and Jad with some special guest musicians. The group reinvented rock music by giving their own take entering the indie rock scene.
This album provides a wild eccentric and humorous energy with Hear the Lions Roar. The new upcoming album proves to be an art rock record in which Jad throws out lyrics that are optimistic, but fierce at the same time. The long list of features of past musicians from the 90’s provides a new favor of instrumentations bringing further depth to Jad’s songs. In addition to these musicians, guest features from baritone horn player Lydia Fischer and cellist Sophie Bernadou uplift the record. The singles “Attack of the Giant Leeches” and “The Preventers” give a touch back to the band’s earlier years with their songs gravitating around horror movies, tabloids, and of course women.
