In a recap of 2016, Kid Cudi has had a pretty rough year with numerous beefs with other artists, a rehab visit for his depression, and delayed albums. As the new year approaches the Cleveland rapper is starting on a high note by announcing his new LP Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin’ with a new release date.
The album was scheduled to be released this past September as a follow up to his album in 2015 Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven. Now Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin’ will be released on December 16th from a recent update on iTunes listing via Pitchfork. After undergoing some minor sample clearances, the album was delayed due to Cudi checking himself into rehab.
Along with announcing the new release date, Cudi has given us a taste of his new album by sharing the track “Baptized in Fire” featuring Travi$ Scott. The track is a classic ode to the Kid Cudi sound that we are so used to. The song mimics a similar sound to one of his top hit songs “Day n’ Nite.” Other tracks include the previous songs “Frequency” and “Surfin'” featuring Pharrell. In addition to these collaborators, there will also be features from Andre 3000 and Willow Smith.
