Back from a four year hiatus, Yeasayer is back with their new album Amen & Goodbye. It happens to be the most humanistic compilation of sound since the launch of their first album All Hour Cymbals. Despite dormancy, Yeasayer’s new LP provides an Eastern futuristic sound interweaved with their signature psychedelic folk rock beats.
After being dropped by their label in 2013, the band went through a journey to establish a new process in producing their layered sound. The new approach in producing this album came as a concept that emphasized playability at live shows. Anand Wilder of Yeasayer says, “ I need to stop reading reviews because that just gets me down [laughing]. But I just want to remain culturally relevant and be able to keep making music without having to make too many artistic compromises.”
Amen & Goodbye proves to be successful in bridging musical motifs and lyrical themes that reflect on religiosity and character. Delivery of their new album was unique in the way they sampled their recordings that produced a natural reverb recorded from a geodesic dome at a farm. Because the band felt “psychologically exhausted” from technology they utilized spaces outside of the traditional studio format to create a more far-reaching sound.
Yeasayer will kick off their October tour after the “secret” NYC show in their hometown as part of the Sofar x Bud Light Music Live Series on September 23. The music series is part of a four-part series of shows featured in Brooklyn. Fans can RSVP by September 21 to win a pair of free tickets for the series as well as for their show at the music & arts festival The Meadows. A two day festival featuring the best performers in hip hop, electronic rock, indie and more.
