Halloween is behind us; the weather is growing colder and with that, many are looking forwards to the festivities of the coming holiday season – and the music world is no exception. Olivia Rodrigo is one of the artists with her sights already set on the season, with the GRAMMY Award-winner having released released her first ever holiday single earlier this week. “Take Me Home (4 Christmas)” released earlier this week on November 5th, marking the first time the popstar’s made a festive track. A music video for the track, featuring Cynthia Nixon and Ben Marshall, is also out now on the singer’s YouTube channel.

Starting with a needle drop, the track mixes the sleigh bells and strings typical of a Christmas track with peppy drumbeats to make a more pop sound. The video opens with the aftermath of a Christmas celebration, complete with bottles strewn about the room and two men passed out across the floor and couch respectively. Rodrigo is seen cleaning up the mess, before cutting to her and Marshall attending a family party. The lyrics and video both detail Rodrigo’s escapades being “taken home” by her partner for Christmas, with a lot of tongue-in-cheek teasing about wanting the commitment that comes with joining a family celebration and detailing humorous scenarios such as getting drunk with her partner’s parents. The video ends returning to her cleaning the apartment with Marshall and the other man passed out, implying the scenes of familial celebration may be a memory or just a daydream.

The track, hot off the heels of her remix of “expectations” and the midst of her ongoing The Unraveled Tour, marks an early present from Rodrigo and a first festive track released by the artist.

Steven Taylor: Hello, I'm Steven! I'm a graduate of Seton Hall University. I majored in journalism, with a minor in Public Relations. I've always had a passion for the arts and creative fields. Writing especially is an area I've always found myself gravitating towards, between assignments in class, working for the school newspaper or just writing in my spare time. I love providing and hearing new perspectives. In addition to my studies and work in writing, I work part-time at after-school and summer programs for my local elementary school. I've been a part of these programs since I was in high school, and I've even been assigned to work one-to-one with children with special needs. I like to think that if I'm able to communicate well with children in the 2nd grade, then I can communicate well with most adults too!
