Everything But The Girl is gearing up for their eleventh studio album release, Blue Reservoir. The album will be available on February 19th, 2027. The first single for the album titled “Young and Dumb” has dropped along with a music video. UK Duo Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt are tapping into a more stripped down sound, rearing away from electronica. A press release from Missing Piece Group tells us “There was an intensity and simplicity to the MOTH shows that took us back to how we started out…Direct, rooted in guitar and voice, a few extra colors. We hadn’t been in that world for a long time and it just felt fresh and real, says Thorn.”
The song opens with a soft bossa nova riff while the video showcases a stage being set. We see a guitar set down, presumably the acoustic guitar heard throughout the album. The lyrics contain themes of longing for youth and the uncertainty of how much time one has to do the things they want to do.
As we hear from Missing Piece Group, the album was recorded live at RAK Studios in London through a ten day period. Watt has been employing a Spanish nylon-string guitar with an electric lead and is also accompanied by bassist Rex Horan and drummer Evan Jenkins. Collaborators also include Fabio de Oliveira, who the duo worked with on their debut album, Eden. The pairs son, Blake Watt, also makes an appearance on two songs. The album was recorded and mixed by Bruno Ellingham and mastered by Miles Showell.
