Talking Heads will release New Feeling, a coffee-table book chronicling their history with archival material and personal reflections from all four members, on May 18, 2027, in honor of the 50th anniversary of their debut album. Pre-orders are currently open.
Band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison discussed their collaboration in a joint video via publisher Abrams Books. This first authorized book will include hundreds of photographs, handwritten lyrics, early album artwork, and essays from each member, featuring notable items like the handwritten lyrics for “Psycho Killer” and “Life During Wartime,” as well as rare memorabilia from the band’s archives.
“For this book, we pulled out handwritten lyrics, original album sketches, and private photos, some of which haven’t left our archive in over 40 years,” Harrison explained in the announcement.
Spanning 400 pages the book explores the origins of Talking Heads, starting from their formation at the Rhode Island School of Design, their rise within the vibrant New York City downtown music scene at CBGB, and their eventual achievement of international fame.
Additionally, it reflects on the band’s innovative 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, which was re-released in 2023 in a newly restored 4K version. Titled New Feeling and designed by Eric Skillman, the book will be available in several formats: a standard hardcover edition priced at $65, a collector’s edition for $150, and a limited edition for $350.
The collector’s and limited editions include a 19-piece wooden puzzle integrated into a deluxe box cover, while the limited edition also features a reproduction of a Mick Rock photograph signed by all four band members.
Since the 2023 restoration and theatrical re-release of Stop Making Sense, the quartet have increasingly appeared together Talking Heads have not resumed making music. However, the group also recently announced a super deluxe reissue of their 1979 album Fear of Music, arriving November 13th with previously unreleased recordings and live material.
