William Shatner performed a set with his band THE *UCKERS, covering songs from Ozzy Osbourne, Motörhead and Metallica on Saturday night, Sept. 19, at the Riot Fest aftershow at Park West in Chicago, Illinois. Shatner is a 95-year-old actor and musician known for his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek.
Shatner’s band, THE *UCKERS, includes Marcus Nand on guitar, Phil Soussan on bass, Britt Lightning on guitar and Fred Aching on drums. The band covered songs from Shatner’s personal listening library and performed his original music, giving fans a preview of what to expect from his upcoming album What The F Is Heavy Metal?
THE *UCKERS covered several classic heavy metal tracks, including “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne, “Ace of Spades” by Motörhead and “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. According to Blabbermouth, Shatner is ready to explore heavy music, stating:
“I have explored space. I have explored time. Now … I explore distortion.”
Riot Fest promoters have tried to get Shatner to perform at the festival for years. Shatner accepted only if the promoters met his conditions, which included a Montreal Canadiens hockey sweater signed by John Stamos, a bowl of sauerkraut, multiple fire breathers, 4 feet of Polish sausage and an assortment of adoptable puppies sourced from a reputable local animal rescue nonprofit.
