New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert has died at age 45 after a five-year battle with cancer on Sept. 20. According to Metal Injection, the news was announced through social media posts from the band and Gilbert’s wife, Lisa Cimorelli.

The posts stated that Gilbert died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family. New Found Glory members vocalist Jordan Pundik, bassist Ian Grushka, drummer Cyrus Bolooki and guitarist Dan O’Connor praised Gilbert for his accomplishments and songwriting, which helped shape the band’s sound.

Gilbert died with his mother and wife by his side. The hospital lobby was filled with visitors who cherished and cared for Gilbert. His family is devastated yet grateful that he passed away peacefully.

Gilbert was an accomplished musician and producer who worked on Trapped Under Ice’s Big Kiss Goodnight, a foundational record for beatdown hardcore. He was also the vocalist for Florida hardcore band Shai Hulud from 1996-1998.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Gilbert was a loving father and husband.
