Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer Tash Sultana released her new single and music video “Something In The Water” today. First release since signing a global deal with BMG earlier this year, and it marks the opening of a new chapter for one of Australia’s most influential musical exports.
The accompanying video draws inspiration from a numerology reading Tash received a decade ago, which closely predicted their future. It features four cards—The Avalanche, The Climb, The Summit, and Dominance—each brought to life through different facets of Tash’s personality.
“For a little while, I lost my way. I had to step back, strip everything away and find the road home to myself. Over the past year and a half, my life has changed in ways I never could have imagined. Now, I’m turning the page and letting go of everything that no longer belongs to me – old relationships, former versions of myself, the image of who I thought I had to be, and the direction I thought my career should take. The past is the past. This is the sound of releasing it – and stepping into whatever comes next,” says Tash about the new single.
Tash describes this time as intentionally human and anti-artificial, emphasizing authentic performances, real instruments, and genuine recordings—some achieved in a single take, others after numerous attempts. This era follows five challenging years, during which Tash distanced themselves from people and systems that no longer supported them, focusing on reclaiming their career and identity.
As a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and entrepreneur, Tash has built a remarkable career over the last decade. With a five-octave vocal range and the ability to play over 20 instruments, they have transitioned from busking in Melbourne to commanding global stages, amassing billions of streams and selling over a million tickets. Their live videos have reached hundreds of millions of viewers, breaking records at venues like Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena and selling out Red Rocks Amphitheater in just five minutes.
“10 years ago, a numerologist gave me a prediction of my future that turned out to be eerily accurate,” Tash says. “It stuck with me and became a pivotal point in how I understood myself and the energy around me. I lost that magic for a while when I veered off course, surrounded by people and situations I needed to separate from. To map the past, present and future, I created four cards: The Avalanche (the past), The Climb (the present), The Summit (the next step), and Dominance (the dream). The clip brings them to life through the interplay of multiple versions of my personality.”
“Something In The Water” offers a first taste of what’s to come. Tash is creating some of the most honest music of their career, marking a new beginning after a decade of growth.
