Geese officially addressed claims of being a “psyop” group and having fake fans after being accused of having a manufactured campaign that led to their rise as a band on September 10.
According to Consequence of Sound, the accusations began after an article published by Wired, with controversial headline, “The Fanfare Around the Band Geese Actually Was a Psyop.” The article addressed bands’ modern marketing tactics with the digital marketing agency Chaotic Good. The singer Eliza McLamb also published a Substack titled “Fake Fans,” which made the situation escalate.
The band’s response was that they should be more involved in how their record is being advertised and stated that the advertising was never fake fans or bots.
The band simply answered the claims by encouraging fans to come to their shows and see for themselves that their fans are real and are there to support the band.
