Phoebe Bridgers Contributes New End Title Song “On Video” To A24’s PRIMETIME Soundtrack

Phoebe Bridgers is returning with new music, and this time, it arrives at the end of a movie. The four-time GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter has contributed a brand-new song, “On Video,” to the soundtrack for A24’s upcoming film PRIMETIME. The track serves as the movie’s end title song and appears as the final song on the 25-track soundtrack, which will be released September 25 through A24 Music alongside the film’s theatrical release.

For Bridgers, “On Video” marks her first original song written specifically for a feature film’s end credits. The soaring rock track features searing guitars and draws inspiration from the tense, unsettling atmosphere of composer Ari Balouzian’s original score. The song also represents Bridgers’ first new music since the release of her acclaimed album Lost Weekend last month.

Bridgers’ involvement with PRIMETIME goes beyond the soundtrack. The musician also makes her acting debut in the film, which is directed by Lance Oppenheim and stars Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, the television personality best known for hosting To Catch a Predator. PRIMETIME explores the increasingly blurred line between performance and reality, with Pattinson’s character becoming more consumed by the world he documents. The track provides what A24 describes as a visceral and cathartic conclusion to the film’s immersive soundscape.

Inspired by classic crime and noir scores, Balouzian’s music was developed alongside the film from an unusually early stage. He had access to footage while the production was still underway, allowing the music to become part of the filmmaking process rather than simply being added after the fact.

“Lance and I were able to craft the sound during filming so they could edit to it,” Balouzian explained. “The process helped the music become a part of the emotional identity of the movie that the actors and other artisans could actually interact with.”

Oppenheim describes the score as having an intentionally unsettling quality, helping PRIMETIME move between dark comedy and genuine horror as its central character begins to lose his grip. The first track made available from the soundtrack is “Savior,” which Pattinson reportedly listened to on set to help get into character.

PRIMETIME arrives in theaters September 25, with the soundtrack available the same day.
