Giovannie and The Hired Guns brings the Cheap Date Tour to Night Club 101 on October 18th.
Giovannie and The Hired Guns was formed in Stephenville, Texas in 2015 and now consists of vocalist Giovannie Yanez, guitarists Carlos Villa and Jerrod Flusche, bassist and tuba player Alex Trejo, and drummer and pianist Milton Toles. The band began captivating audiences in local honky-tonks with their first two self-released albums, 2017’s Bad Habits and 2020’s Giovannie and the Hired Guns, which debuted their vicious blend of alt-metal, Red Dirt country, Latin pop, Americana, and countless other styles. In 2022, the band signed with Warner Music (Green Day, Weezer, etc.), and released their breakthrough album, Tejano Punk Boyz, which, as the name suggests, embraced both the band members’ Mexican-American roots and love of punk rock with songs like “Overrated,” which mixes gritty vocals and driving guitars with a tuba-filled verse, and “Ramón Ayala,” a country-punk track with English and Spanish lyrics named after one of the most influential artists in Mexican norteño music. The album earned the band massive critical success, earning 25 million streams within months, topping the Billboard Rock & Alternative Airplay chart for five weeks with “Ramon Ayala,” and greatly contributing to their 2023 iHeartRadio Music Award for Best New Artist in Alternative & Rock win.
In 2025, they released their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Quitter, which was produced by Johnny K (Megadeth, Sevendust, Plain White T’s) and was inspired by Yanez’s experiences with two life-changing events, a relapse with addiction and the passing of his close friend. Describing the recording process, Yanez said, “We just went in there and had fun and didn’t let anything hold us back, and because of that the album shows the full range of what we can do as a band,” a statement that Quitter easily lives up to with its wide-range of expertly executed sounds from acoustic ballads, to thumping, horn-laden disco, to towering hard rock with guttural throat screams, massive choruses, and soaring guitar work (and face-melting solos), all held together by some of the bands’ most deeply personal lyrics to date. Their concerts are equally as raucous and diverse, channeling all the wild energy of their music and attracting crowds of metalheads, skatepunks, cowboys, and more, who Yanez tries to make feel “like they’re just as much a part of the band as my guys are. We’re all connected, and without them we’d never be where we are now.” They also regularly pay homage to their inspirations, performing covers of Hinder, Foster The People, Pantera, and a faithful rendition of Ayala’s “Tragos Amargos,” to name a few. Having transitioned from local success to national recognition, Giovannie and the Hired Guns continues to defy expectations at every turn of their steadily growing career and is set to release their next single, “Cheap Date,” on September 24th (ahead of an album that the band has teased as being almost complete).
