Behemoth Join Forces With Dimmu Borgir’s Shagrath For New Rendition Of Venom’s “In League With Satan”

Today saw the release of I, Scvlptor by Polish extreme metal figureheads Behemoth. With the release of I, Scvlptor came a video for one of the album’s tracks, a cover of the foundational black metal track “In League With Satan” by Venom, featuring Shagrath of fellow extreme metal act Dimmu Borgir. The video can be found on the band’s YouTube channel.

The video is suitably coated in darkness, with the band performing devoid almost entirely of color outside of harsh blues. The respective vocalists stand back to back as they bellow out the lyrics to the track, with rotation shots of the two mixed in with shows of the band performing and vignettes of abandoned homes coated in darkness.

“When we were looking for a name for our tour with Dimmu Borgir, I thought it would be great to use a timeless slogan and basically quote the gods of satanic rock’n’roll,” said Behemoth frontman Nergal, “Venom and “In League with Satan” perfectly fit my vision. I honestly don’t remember what came first — the idea for the tour name or the idea of recording the song itself. What matters is that we recorded it on seven-string guitars with Shagrath from Dimmu as a guest vocalist. The song gained a massive weight and a completely new dimension. We’re planning to play it live and I think our version turned into something truly powerful.”

I, Scvlptor released yesterday featuring 8 tracks from Behemoth, including “in League With Satan” and a live version of “The Return of Darkness and Evil.”
