California deathcore band Carnifex have announced their tenth studio album, titled More Than Misery, set for release later this year in November. As part of the new announcement also came the release of the album’s title track and video to go alongside it. The video can be found on the band’s YouTube channel.
The title track opens with ominous strings and synths, with visuals of fire only raging further as drums and distant metal growls build up. Brutal guitar marches in as the vocals come center stage with nearly inhuman growls from vocalist Scott Ian Lewis, creating an explosive cacophony of chaos. The track serves as a strong introduction to the themes and sounds expected to be explored in More Than Misery, which is said to be the band’s first album Lewis wrote not simply enduring and processing his experiences, but after surviving.
The title – which at first may sound like a macabre idea of emotions worse than mere misery – in this context presents a more optimistic idea, asserting one as being greater than the suffering they had once felt. “More Than Misery is about what happens when suffering becomes more than something you endure, it becomes what changes you,” said Lewis. “This is Carnifex at our most honest and unapologetically brutal.” As the band describes, the title track’s thesis is that life will always be more than it’s misery.
Fans can expect to see the full release later this year on November 6th.
