Rock band Queens of the Stone Age just announced their ninth studio album Perfecth. It’s set for an October 30th release via Matador. Last month, they offered the first glimpse into this new era with their first single in three years, “Easy Street,” featuring Nikki Lane. Today, they’ve given us the second sneak peek with “Insignificant Other,” as reported by Pitchfork.
The brand-new track is nearly six minutes long and takes on both a somber and a funky feel, marked by an electric guitar and piano. “Insignificant Other” seems to detail the end of a relationship, zooming in on the lost feeling of familiarity and togetherness and how quickly those impassioned emotions can fall away. The chorus captures this perfectly: “Insignificant other/From forever to for never/Insignificant other/My four leaf clover/It’s over, it’s over.”
Perfecth was recorded between Los Angeles and New Orleans and was named by frontman Josh Homme. “Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth,’” he said. “And that title is funny when you’re in a group, but it ain’t so funny when you’re alone.”
