Teenage Fanclub Drops New Single “There Was You” and Announces New Album Do Not Dare To Dream For October 2026 Release

On August 19th, Teenage Fanclub released a new single called “There Was You” that will be on their thirteenth album Do Not Dare To Dream out October 9th. “There Was You” is describing a “I was lost, but now I’m found” kind of love. The visuals show this by one of the band members singing next to rocks as the camera rotates and the band all singing in the studio, because it visibly shows that the singer is able to wait for the love for that someone that makes them feel scene and be present in music with their bandmates as well. The lyrics show this by them saying, “But way up ahead at the end of the road, There was you”, “But out of the blue at the end of the road, There was you”, “But at last I was found, when it all turned around” and “But out of the gloom with your flower in bloom, There was you”. The acoustic guitar, melodic guitar, bass, drums, domus church organ and synthesizers give the song an indie pop and alternative rock feel that allow the listener to digest the lyrics while taking in the harmonies and sounds at the same time.

The album takes its title from Norman Blake’s wryly called “I Do Not Dare To Dream” which pushed back on little optimisms while embracing a silently hopeful outlook. The band took inspiration from this and included balanced, “introspective lyricism with richly layered arrangements shaped by decades of collaboration. The songs unfold with a natural ease, drawing on acoustic textures, organ tones, and interwoven guitars to create a warm, immersive atmosphere” (Teenage Fanclub’s 13th Album Press Release). Blake said that, “I think what happens is you just move from one thing into the next and before you know it, 30 years have passed” … Raymond McGinley adds to this by saying that, “Yeah, it’s been while since we started doing this thing we do, but to us it feels like no time at all. In the place where we made the record people would have been singing thousands of years ago. Life is short, but music is eternal” (Teenage Fanclub’s 13th Album Press Release).
