Ani DiFranco, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, guitarist and feminist icon widely regarded as the mother of the DIY movement, is set to return to Los Angeles on Wednesday, August 12 at The Ford, with acclaimed singer-songwriter Valerie June joining as special guest.
The show places one of independent music’s most influential figures in the intimate, hillside setting of The Ford, as part of the venue’s 2026 season. DiFranco’s latest album, 2024’s Unprecedented Sh!t, is a poignant political and social commentary, with songs that serve as civil-rights rallying cries, calls to action for reproductive freedom, and meditations on identity, all set to her signature alchemy of folk, soul and jazz-pop.
One of the first artists to create her own record label, founding Righteous Babe Records in 1990, DiFranco has released more than twenty albums across a fiercely independent career, embracing punk, funk, hip-hop, jazz and soul while remaining a defining voice for those on society’s margins. Her memoir No Walls and the Recurring Dream was a New York Times bestseller, and she recently completed a five-month Broadway run as Persephone in the Tony and Grammy-winning musical Hadestown.
Opening the night, singer-songwriter Valerie June, whom NPR has described as an elemental talent, brings her own genre-spanning artistry, honed over a 15-year career, to the bill.
