Sharing more from her upcoming album, Empress Of has released a new single today. The new track, “SYW,” is the latest single from her forthcoming album Dream House. The new track features a collaboration from Cecile Believe, with a new video accompanying the track. The video can be found on YouTube.
“SYW” – an acronym for “say you wanna” – sees Empress Of teaming up with Believe, a close friend and longtime collaborator. The video stars Empress Of herself seen running, dancing and singing across a variety of scenes both in a city and amongst nature. Cecile Believe also joins during her own voice, stealing the focus and the track with her energetic vocal delivery. The two meet later in the video, hugging amongst a crowd while the footage is lathered with a blurring, low framerate effect that compliments the dreamy sound of the track to create a level of surrealism to the track.
“I love this song because it’s a part of the story in such an urgent, energetic way,” Empress Of shares. “Also, to collaborate with Cecile was such a dream.” The track comes ahead of Dream House‘s September 18th release, itself adding to the album’s themes of loss and rebuilding inspired by Empress Of’s own loss of her family home. The upcoming album is set to be some of Empress Of’s most intimate, personal and unguarded work to date.
