Previous collaborators Open Mike Eagle and producer Kenny Segal have once again joined forces this time alongside Billy Woods for the duo’s latest release, “She Swear I’m Colorblind.” The collaboration’s lineup also features Diego Gaeta of Human Error Club and Armand Hammer’s Tiny Desk Concert on the Rhodes keys and Aaron Shaw playing saxophone and flute. The track released earlier this week ahead of DOOMED!, the upcoming collaborative album of Eagle and Segal. It can be found on YouTube.
“She Swear I’m Colorblind” marks the third single released for the album, sharing another taste of the album’s mellow sound and themes of misunderstanding, conflict and an ultimately doomed relationship. Eagle’s lyrics flow over a steady beat illuminated by light instrumentation from Gaeta and Shaw. At two minutes in, he lets Woods take the stage, taking an equally mellow yet steady flow over the beat.
“In recent years, Kenny made it very clear that he wasn’t trying to keep having one or two beats on my projects; he wanted to build something,” Open Mike Eagle explained about the upcoming album. “I was able to convince him to let me use a couple beats for Neighborhood Gods Unlimited with the caveat that we would focus on our thing next. Then my relationship fell apart right when we started working, and it was like, ‘Perfect, I have a lot to say about this.’”
“She Swear I’m Colorblind” is the third single released on the track, and the sixth on the album’s tracklist. The album is set for release on August 14th.
