Chrome Sparks dropped a new song yesterday, titled “Sleeper.” The track sees Chrome Sparks, often himself a collaborator with other artists, instead being joined by artists Khalid and Jonsi for his own release, as part of his upcoming album Ball of Light. The track can be found on Chrome Spark’s YouTube channel.
The synth coated track – described as a sweeping, immersive collaboration with ethereal, otherworldly production – presents an emotional first taste of the album’s tone. Cloudy, dreamlike synths reverberate over a drumbeat and distant vocalizations. A shift around a minute into the song drifts deeper into the depths of the track, with more pronounced vocals and synths that sound like the strumming of a guitar. The two minute mark sees the track return to it’s looping start, this time stacked and slathered with further layers of synths that push the song into a serene slumber.
“Over the last seven years, I’ve focused mostly on collaborations and other artists’ projects,” shares Jeremy Malvin, the man behind Chrome Sparks. “‘Ball of Light’ is me finding myself again.” While an acclaimed voice in the electronic scene with a variety of work under the Chrome Sparks name and with other artists, Ball of Light is said to come as a creative reset for the creator. The album, described as expansive yet intimate, will mark the glowing opening to a new chapter, seeing Malvin “reconnecting with what first drew him to making music while pushing his work into vivid new territory.” The album is set for release on September 11th.
