Emma Ruth Rundle brings the THESE KILLING TIMES TOUR to Saint Vitus on December 10th with special guest Cinder Well.
Born in Los Angeles in 1983, Rundle got her start playing guitar in the “folk gaze” band Nocturnes and the post-rock band Red Sparrows, before forming Marriages in 2014. Her first solo album came in 2011 in the form of the self-released ambient guitar record, Electric Guitar: One, which was reissued in 2014 by her independent label, Errant Child Records. In 2014, during the recording of Marriages’ first full-length album, Rundle released her non-instrumental solo debut, Some Heavy Oceans, which introduced her unique blend of the atmospherics of goth, chaotic guitars of experimental metal, and detail-oriented lyrics of folk. 2017’s Marked For Death, inspired by Grundle’s adenomyosis condition, increased the brutality of her music sonically and lyrically, before she followed up with the lighter On Dark Horses in 2018.
Written after a week in a hospital, 2021’s Engine of Hell took a stark, intimate, and unflinching approach, as Rundle humanizes the trauma and grief she went through on her most vulnerable album yet. Now, she turns her sights towards hope on her upcoming album, These Killing Times (out on September 18) on which she aims to acknowledge pain while offering community and defiance in response. If the powerful singles “Powerless” and “Enough” are any indication, These Killing Times promises to be electrifying and highly emotional as Rundle questions the role we have as individuals and artists. Performing with a full band each night, her upcoming tour is set to deliver huge performances filled with all the introspection, rage, and sonic depth that makes her music so impactful.
